StorySecond Lieutenant W.H. Bonfield who died of wounds received on duty on October 26th was formerly of Bedford. He had spent 20 years in Cornwall, first at Scorrier Estate Office and since at Coverack as land steward for Mr, P.D. Williams of Lanarth Estate and by whom he was very highly esteemed a a most capable and trustworthy steward. At the outbreak of War he took a very active and helpful part in recruiting, also in the formation of the local VTC. He was secretary for the Coverack branch of the RNLI and choirmaster at St Peter's Church, Coverack up to the time of his volunteering for the army which he joined as a private but quickly gained promotion. He leaves a widow (Florence) and two sons (Frank and Eric).
