Story

Mr and Mrs Prout of Penventinue Cottages have just received official information that their eldest son John Henry aged 28 was killed while fighting in Persian Gulf on 29th September.  Well known and for some time gardener at Place and after leaving from there went to work at one of the clay works in St Austell district.  From there he joined up in September 1914 the 14th Batt DCLI and sent for training on Salisbury Plain.  He then volunteered for foreign service and was sent to India.  After a short time sent to Persian Gulf where he had been fighting for four months prior to death.  Kindly disposition well liked by everyone.
