StoryAlbert Williams came from a large Cornish family. His parents Albert and Vera (nee Crocker) Williams lived in Lanivet Cornwall. They married in 1922 and had 7 children of which Albert (b. 1924) was the eldest. He was followed by Robert (b. 1925), Elizabeth (b. 1926), Marjorie (b. 1928), Enid (b. 1930) Cecil (b. 1931) and Leslie (b. 1937). Albert’s father (Albert senior) was a China Clay Kiln Maker. Albert’s brother Robert served in the Fleet Air Arm as a Petty Officer Airman and was killed while based in the Isle of Man on 8th October 1945. He was 20. Joined RAF in September 1941 via the Weston-Super-Mare recruiting centre. His original service number was 1587373 and he was only an Aircraftman 2nd Class when he was Gazetted Pilot Officer on Probation (Emergency) on 8th April 1944. He was confirmed as P/O to be Flying Officer (War Subs) on 8th October 1944. He joined 612 squadron, with the rest of F/O W.G.Wood’s crew, on 8th December 1944 after training overseas. For unknown reasons this crew did not fly operationally until mid-February 1945. Wellington XIV NB936 took off from Langham at 18:46 on the evening of 10/03/45 for a night anti-shipping patrol over the North Sea. Unfortunately the radar became unserviceable and the captain, F/O W.G.Wood, decided to abandon the mission and return to base. The aircraft landed at 20:25 and for some reason F/O Williams got out of the aircraft while one of the propellers was still turning. He walked into the spinning propeller and was killed instantly.
