On Staff Service his appointments were Uganda Protectorate (Jane 1898-May 1900), special service in South Africa (1900), employment with the Rand Rifles (Dec 1901-Nov 1902), Brigade Major, 16th Brigade Irish Command (Oct 1909-Mar 1912), and General Staff Officer (2nd grade), Coast Defence, Southern Command (Mar 1912-Oct 1913). WW1, Colonel in the Hampshire Regiment, 22 Aug 1914, went to France, 2nd in Command of 1st Bn, and was wounded at La Cateau, Nov 1914, returned to France in Command of 1st Bn. Wounded at La Brique near Ypres on 8 May 1915, and died on 12 Jun 1915 at Guy’s Hospital, London, of his wounds and enteric fever.
