Japanese POW. He attempted twice to get to Singapor from Sumatra to try to enlist. He finally made it to the British Consul in Java. Unfortunately, no one was allowed to leave the islands. StoryWorked in a gold mine in the Dutch East Indies and enlisted there in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Captured by the Japanese Forces he became a prisoner of war for over three years. On VJ Day (15 Aug 1945) he was released along with other prisoners and was returning to the mining area when they were stopped (5 Nov 1945) by an Indonesian manned roadblock. Regrettably, the group were speared and knifed to death by mob 100 villages blocking the road as they thought they were Dutch officials.
