William John (Jack) Lashbrook, aged 25. Â He joined the Colours in December, 1914, went to France in April, 1915, and had been slightly wounded and gassed. Â He was formerly in the employ of Messrs. Hepworth, outfitters, at Truro. Â Mr. and Mrs. Lashbrook, who have two more sons serving - one in France, and one in the Australian Navy - have received the following letter from Sec.-Lieut. H. W. Aldrich: - At the request of my brother officers and the men of the Company, I am writing to express our very deep and sincere sympathy in the great loss you have sustained. Â He was killed while advancing with his platoon against the enemy trenches, and his death deprives us of a splendid N.C.O., whom we could ill afford to lose. Â I realise how little comfort mere words can bring to you now, but I can only hope that as time goes by your sorrow may be lessened by the thought that you gave so gallant a son to England, and that he made the supreme sacrifice of a brave man in the cause of freedom and justice.
