The ‘Royal Adelaide’, a timber built barque of 453 tons, built in Quebec in 1831 and built in Fowey undertook many voyages to America and Canada over several decades. She carried out passengers, the majority being emigrants, and brought back timber, leaving mainly from Falmouth.
This is the artist’s impression of emigrants embarking on her at dusk in Falmouth Harbour.
The barque is busy preparing to leave with the last of the passengers climbing aboard. The Master is seen negotiating with the Captain of the Tug ‘Dart’ a price for towing him out of the harbour and into Falmouth Bay.
