This book contains a riveting collection of childhood memories of the late Jack INGREY of St Merryn on the North Cornish Coast, although it could relate to many Cornish Villages. The story starts at the end of WW1 and finishes in the thirties. The topics are varied and written in an entertaining and humorous style.
Jack talks of pig killing, bird beating, rabbit trapping, mending roads, wrecks, family picnics and a myriad of interesting subjects long since forgotten.
Jack takes you back to how he occupied his early days in the Cornish countryside, he loved nature and this shines through his pen. Many a humorous anecdote is related, which I thought were fictional but he assured me that they are all true. He had a wonderful memory so I have no reason to doubt him.
