Description
From moral welfare work to social care, this compassionate charity illustrates the changes during the 20th century in attitudes towards girls in trouble and the greater opportunities that became available to them. A second chance was given to ‘fallen’ and ‘wayward’ girls to turn their lives around, get training, find a job and become responsible mothers.
This uplifting story includes thumbnail sketches of girls who received help, and raises issues still relevant today such as poverty, exploitation, adoption, fostering and affordable housing.
